Varalaxmi Sarathkumar rubbishes rumours about role in ‘Maari 2’KollywoodVaralaxmi said that she would be seen in a powerful role in the film that is slated to release later this year.Digital NativeDigital NativeLast year, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar was seen playing a role that had shades of grey in Sathya, the Tamil remake of the Telugu blockbuster Kshanam. And in the upcoming movie Sandakozhi 2, which is being directed by N Lingusamy, she is playing the baddie.
This has raised speculations about her role in the Dhanush starrer Maari 2, which is currently in progress. There have been reports that Varalaxmi plays the main antagonist in this film, but the actor has denied it now.
Stating that she never mentioned anywhere that her role in Maari 2 had shades of grey, Varalaxmi said that she would be seen in a powerful role with good scope for performance. Varalaxmi has confirmed that she has joined the sets of the film.
Directed by Balaji Mohan, Maari 2 is the sequel to the hit movie Maari, which hit the silver screens a couple of years ago. The Premam girl, Sai Pallavi, has been roped in to pair up with Dhanush in this flick.
Maari 2 will also mark the debut of Malayalam star Tovino Thomas in his first straight Tamil film and reports indicate that he will be playing the main villain. Interestingly, Tovino’s Malayalam movie Tharangam was bankrolled by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films.
The film, which is slated for release later this year, will have music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. With Dhanush and Yuvan teaming up after several years, expectations are high on this album.
It may be mentioned here that Maari, the hit movie which released in 2015, was also directed by Balaji Mohan and had Dhanush and Kajal Aggarwal playing the lead roles. Dhanush portrayed a gangster in Maari and will be reprising the role in the sequel as well.
With Dhanush playing a gangster and Tovino the antagonist, sources say that it would be a laugh riot just like its prequel.
